Events Data Observatory

We went in-depth on what an events data observatory – one of the cornerstones of Spirit of 2012’s Inquiry actions – could look like. Monitoring, evaluation and research – when delivered well – enables us to answer the above questions. Where they could do better is helping us move from evidencing the impact of singular events in isolation, to displaying the connected, long-lasting and contingent value of events as an ecosystem.

We believe that an Events Data Observatory can play a role in shifting this dial, and in doing so not only improve the storytelling, evidencing and evaluation of events, but also their capacity to achieve their intended outcomes in the first place.

Birmingham Festival 23 Evaluation Report

Fry spent 6-months collaborating with and working alongside Birmingham Festival 23 to map out, measure and evaluate the impact of the official one-year anniversary festival of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. This independent report celebrates successes and highlights learnings that are no doubt of use elsewhere in the sector.

The festival was roundly celebrated as accessible, representative, and celebratory, all while continuing the strong sector development trajectory of the Birmingham 2022 Festival, and platforming an incredibly wide range of emerging and established creative talent, both on and off the stage.
